Chef Marvin Woods

Mission Foods® and Atlanta-based TV Chef Marvin Woods have teamed up to help combat childhood obesity by educating America’s students, one school at a time.  Chef Woods developed the Droppin’ Knowledge with Chef Marvin Woods program for the Atlanta Public School System. Chef Woods has partnered with the Atlanta Hawks and the Thrashers School Assembly program to deliver healthy eating tips and recipes to students throughout metro Atlanta.

The partnership is an extension of the Atlanta Hawks & Thrashers existing "1, 2, 3…Healthy Me" program, which teaches kids the importance of reading, healthy eating and staying fit.  This is the first time that a major food brand, a celebrity chef and an Atlanta professional sports team have come together to bring this type of programming to Atlanta school children.

Mission Foods sponsored three school assemblies in January, February and March of 2008, engaging students and their families during on-campus cooking assemblies, providing  hands-on experience and new ways to improve how and what they eat.  The program aligns closely with Mission Food’s goal of partnering with mothers to provide healthy menu ideas that are simple and easy to make.  Woods, one of the freshest faces in the culinary world, also hosted TurnerSouth’s wildly popular TV program "Home Plate."
